With close to one million acres located in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan, the Ottawa National Forest extends from the south shore of Lake Superior to the Wisconsin border. The Ottawa has over 50,000 acres in three wildernesses, the 18,327-acre Sylvania Wilderness, 16,580-acre McCormick Wilderness and the 14,139-acre Sturgeon River Gorge Wilderness. Elevations range from 600' at the Lake Superior shoreline to more than 1,800' in the Sylvania Wilderness. Recreational activities enjoyed include camping, hiking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, fishing and snowmobiling.
