"The oldest Historical Society in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan," founded in 1918; the Marquette County History Museum features exhibition galleries that include artifacts from the pre-historic copper culture through contemporary times, permanent dioramas and the J.M. Longyear Research Library, considered one of the finest private historical research libraries in Michigan; which specializes in the history of the Lake Superior region. The library and archives collection includes rare books, manuscripts, scrapbooks, newspapers, diaries, correspondence, business ledgers, personal papers, and genealogy sources.
