With over two thousand acres of marshland, lakes and swamp, Carlos Avery is a birding site and is best visited during the season of migration, when the shorebirds arrive in large numbers; some of the species one may see include the Sandhill Crane, the Sedge Wren, and the Golden-Winged Warbler.

I am concerned regarding the proposed harvesting of 70 acres of primarily very mature, large oak trees in Carlos Avery off Anoka County Road 22, 2.5 miles west of the city of Wyoming and I-35. The purpose is purportedly to “improve wildlife habitat” ??? I understand the DNR will auction off these magnificent trees and will collect approximately $11 per cord. Who or what is benefiting from this devastation of public land? It certainly isn’t the wildlife or the people of Minnesota.
