This is the site of Minnesota's only state orphanage, which was in operation from 1886 to 1945, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places; the museum contains pictures, artifacts, and personal stories of some of the approximately thirteen thousand children who were placed in the orphanage. The site contains thirteen original buildings, a cemetery, and the "State School Kids" Memorial.
