Originally built as a 140-room hotel for the expanding West in 1858, this structure later became famous for its role as the headquarters for the Pony Express from 1860 to 1861. St. Joseph's only National Historic Landmark, Patee House was occupied by the Union Army and served as the Provost Marshal's office during the Civil War. It has been a hotel three times, a girl's college twice, and was a shirt factory for 80 years.
