I recently had the opportunity to see this lovely southern mansion kept as it was in the antebellum south for the most part. The furnishings that were not the originals were duplicated as closely as possible. The house did not have a kitchen as kitchens were built seperately then. The rooms were decorated beautifully as the were then, very large with floor to ceiling windows to let the cool air in, so you really get the ambiance along with the winding staircase very narrow so you wonder how those hoop skirts got up the stairs. The current owner and narrator about the house gives a lot of information complete with a deeply southern accent and is very friendly and informative.

This is truly one of America's architectural treasures. The story is fascinating. The house sat in ruins for years. Mr. and Mrs. Snow bought it in 1962 and beautifully restored it, doing most of the work themselves.
