From the moment that I saw White Arches in Columbus, MS, I knew that I would love the Spring Pilgrimage! The Columbus Air Force Spouses (and other Columbus volunteers) serve as hostesses in the various antebellum homes on tour. My daughter who is a Lt. Colonel had told me that volunteers were needed, and although I was not from Columbus (currently living in Asheville, North Carolina), I knew immediately that if the Ladies who organize this fantastic event would have me, I would certainly volunteer! From the first visitors to White Arches to the last farewell with the owners, Dick and Jo Anne Leike, I literally fell in love with the graciousness of all who toured the homes. The candlelight tour was extremely impressive with the beautiful crystal chandeliers twinkling in the evening as night fell. Mrs. Dixie Butler, owner of Temple Heights, had provided outdoor torches so that the outbuildings and the gardens could also be enjoyed. If you love the South and the Graciousness of Southerners, you will not want to miss this wonderful 5-Star Experience next year, Spring Pilgrimage 2013. . . and yes, I wore curtains as my antebellum skirt and remembered to leave the curtain rod at home!
