Old Capitol Museum   (circa 1839)
100 South State Street
Jackson, MS 39201

A National Historic Landmark, the Old Capitol is "one of the country's premier examples of Greek Revival public architecture." Restored to its original grandeur, the Old Capitol was the site of such significant legislative actions as the passage of the 1839 Married Women's Property Act, Mississippi's secession from the Union in 1861, and the crafting of the 1868 and 1890 state constitutions. The museum's interactive multi-media exhibits explore the roles of the legislature, governor, and high court, as well as, the importance of historic preservation to the state, the activities that took place in the building after the New Capitol was constructed in 1903, and more. The Old Capitol Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
