The twenty-two foot marble monument features the Colonel in full grandeur, but missing three fingers. Legend has it that a relative of the Colonel's killer shot off part of the hand after a night of heavy drinking. W.C. Faulkner's great-grandson, author William Faulkner, immortalized the statue by alluding to it is his work, Sartoris.
