One of the few surviving "boarding house" type inns that used to be common in every North Carolina mountain town, this comfortable, old-fashioned inn has a spacious lobby with a cozy fireplace, overstuffed armchairs, and ornately carved Victorian settees. An array of accommodation styles are available throughout three buildings. The Main Building has 27 guest rooms, the Farmhouse has 15 guest rooms, and the First Floor Wing has 16 guest rooms. Large porches with wicker rockers and swings are on site for guests to enjoy, as well as a small outdoor pool and a recreation room with a pool table, darts, and a jukebox. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals are available in the dining room.

My mother and sister and I stumbled on the Monte Vista in 1989. We visited the inn every year for the next three years hauling friends and relatives with us. We loved the Christmas decorations. The unique dining room and the fantastic fire place in the lobby. The food was great, the people lots of fun and we were able to relax and enjoy ourselves. Haven't been back since Mom died, but my sister and I will be in North Carolina in October and we are absolutely making a stop at the Monte Vista. Can't wait.
