    Built by merchant and landowner Jefferson Davis Smith, this Victorian style home is listed on the National Register of Historic Homes and contains unique period furnishings that depict the design tastes of Gertrude Smith, who attended Parson’s School of Interior Design in New York City. The house serves as a living museum reflective of the early 1900s lifestyle and numerous art exhibits, musical concerts, open houses, and holiday events are held here throughout the year.  map

    The earliest known structure remaining in the town of Mount Airy, this historic house has a combination of Victorian and Italianate stylistic features on the outside and Greek Revival features on the inside. The house is nestled on over four lavishly landscaped acres and features an outstanding 1865 rustic hexagonal summerhouse in the front yard. Tours are arranged by appointment.  map

  • World's Largest Open-Face Granite Quarry (circa 1889)

    A fully operating quarry that is shaped like an enormous oyster shell and covers approximately 90 acres. A pit quarry is below the surface while an open face quarry is at ground level. Industrial tours are available and an observation area is open daily.
