This preserve lies on almost 150 acres along Swift Creek and supports vegetation more typical of the mountains, including Eastern Hemlocks, that is not usually found either this far south or east of the Appalachian Mountains. It is thought that this small enclave of rare vegetation is a holdover from the last Ice Age which occurred approximately 10,000 years ago.
