The art collection at this museum traces a thread of American art history from the year 1775 to the present day. Ranging from a portrait by the South's premier Colonial artist and works from the Hudson River School to examples of modernism by Georgia O'Keeffe and others, the collection covers a wide and varied range of artistic styles. In addition, there are exhibits that explore historical costumes and decorative arts. The museum is located in a 1912 American country home that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and contains its original furnishings.
