Offering a comprehensive and realistic view of 19th-century life on a large North Carolina plantation, this unique historical attraction on the northeast rim of Lake Phelps is the only such North Carolina plantation preserved as a state historic site and open to the visiting public. The present-day historic site includes 31 of the original lakeside acres and seven original 19th-century buildings. Visitors can tour such structures as the circa 1830, Collins Family Home, the dairy, kitchen/laundry, kitchen rations building, salting house, and the smokehouse. Guided tours are available upon request.
