Known as the “Skyscraper on the Prairie,” the Art Deco-style North Dakota State Capitol Building was completed and occupied in 1935, as a result of a fire which destroyed the original circa 1884 capitol building in 1930. One of three high-rise capitol buildings in the United States, the 19-story North Dakota State Capitol Building is available for tours hourly Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The North Dakota State Capitol grounds include the main Capitol building, North Dakota Department of Transportation building, North Dakota Heritage Center, Liberty Memorial building, North Dakota Governor's Residence, North Dakota State Office building, Myron Atkinson Park and the Capitol Park.
