The official state archives, the State Archives and Historical Research Library houses the collections of the State Historical Society of North Dakota. It acquires and preserves all types of research materials relating to North Dakota and the Northern Great Plains, including manuscripts, books, maps, newspapers, audio and video materials and photographs. The State Archives and Historical Research Library's reading room is open for research 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and on the second Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except legal holidays.
