Constructed as a military post, Fort Totten served American Indian policy from 1867 to 1959. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Fort Totten has been an Indian boarding school, Indian health care facility, and a reservation school. The visitors center and buildings are open from mid-May through mid-September 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
