Amos Fortune Grave Site
Jaffrey, NH 03452
Amos Fortune arrived in New England as a slave, but purchased his freedom in 1769. He moved to Jaffrey with his wife Violet (a former slave whom he had purchased) and became a successful tanner, leaving bequests to the church and school when he died in 1801. Jaffrey residents started the Amos Fortune Forum in his memory in 1947.
