Went to Curtins Sat. June 19. This place needs a serious make over, Gordon Ramsey, where are you? Tons, tons,tons of potential. Incredible location, atmosphere, bar, water views, live music it has it all but the food. Curtins doesn't know if it is a bar or a restaurant, it should stick to being a waterfront bar. They have a really odd set up where if you are waiting for a table, we had to wait 90 min. on a 7 PM arrival, your bar tab is separate from your dinner tab. Your sitting 10' away from your table for dinner in the same room,drinks come from the same bar and food comes from the same kitchen.
The atmosphere and location tempted us to wait the 90 min. The hostess said that we could order appetizers @ the bar while we waited. We were seated at a nice table on the water in the bar while we waited, a waitress took our drink order and we asked for an appetizer menu. What was delivered was a bar munchies menu, wings, poppers, nachos, etc. When we asked for the dinner appetizers we were told we could not get them at the bar. Again all food comes from the same kitchen. When you are looking to order the broiled seafood platter or the baked stuffed flounder what is offered at the bar as an app doesn't work. We decided to hang on and wait. Our drinks arrived promptly and our waitress vanished. 45 minutes later she reappeared and we ordered another round. Promptly @ 90 min. the hostess came and took us to our table. Again, very nice on the water. When our waitress arrived we were promptly told that one of the ovens broke and the broiled combination and the baked founder we had come for where available. We settled on the mussels in red sauce and the fried scallops. Mussels where plentiful and very good, the scallops were heavy on the coating, dry, gummy and greasy. I am sure they came from Sam's club.
At least for now go somewhere else for dinner and show up at Curtins for sunset drinks and after dark music and party. Hope they get there restaurant act together.

Well, let's see. If you are waiting 90 minutes for a table, then obviously they are not in dyer financial straits and they do not need Gordon ramsey. I have lived in the area my whole life. This place has been around for at least 30 years. they only operate in the summer and they manage to stay afloat. I am in the restaurant business and I would like to touch on some points that you made. The reason the bar bill is seperate from the dinner bill: the bartenders are making your drinks and waiting on you while you wait for dinner. And if the tap is transfered over to the dinner bill, the bartender then worked for free. Most people do not know to tip the bar/cocktail if they have the tab combined with dinner. The reason they dont allow dinner apps at the bar: the kitchen is very busy as it is. And adding menu options to everyone at the bar as well makes them crash and burn. Im positive they have cooks for the bar tickets and dinner tickets. serving dinner items at the bar would also encourage people to just eat at the bar and cocktail tables. This then takes money away from the restaurant and the dinner waitresses. As for oven braking or "we're out of this", unavailable menu items: this is anywhere. Restaurants run out of things, equipment brakes and things happen. This is life. Adapt. I am a bartender in philadelphia. If we run out of martini glasses on a saturday night, a customer will actually complain that they had to drink their cosmo out of a different glass!!!! They're are more important things to complain about in life. Dont fret over a broken broiler or no martini glasses! Its unattractive!

we could use curtin's warf here in chincoteague va.i grew up down the road from curtin's (capt. connie used to buy us sodas when we were kids:-) good times).
i now live on chincoteague island va.,a tourist island.let me tell ya, the restaurants are awful,the one deck bar here is a crap hole,and everything is over priced.
curtain's warf is beautifully decorated,the view is amazing, the music is great. things happen in kitchens as chho4285 pointed out,the crew @ curtin's work their tails off all summer. i give them lots of credit on their efforts.

We went there last night, AUg. 10, 2011. The food was awful. I don't mind spending 17.00 for stuffed eggplant if it's good, but the eggplant was green and it was just awful. Hubby got fried flounder and it was dry. They gave us a salad in a little bowl, just iceberg lettuce with two cherry tomatoes. that's it. It's very expensive, and not worth the money. I would never go there again.
