The center of ancestral Puebloan culture between AD 850 and 1250, Chaco Canyon's sites are part of the homeland of Pueblo Indian peoples of New Mexico, the Hopi Indians of Arizona and the Navajo Indians of the Southwest. A designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, Chaco Culture National Historical Park's museum contains one million artifacts from over 120 sites in Chaco Canyon and the surrounding area. Six major sites are located along the nine-mile long Canyon Loop Drive. The recommended route to the park is from the north, via US 550 and County Roads 7900 and 7950.
