Over 600 years ago, the ancestors of modern Pueblo people built thriving communities in the area called Bandelier, located on the slopes of the Jemez Mountains. Several thousand of these dwellings, inhabited from the 1100's into the mid-1500's, are found among the pink mesas and sheer-walled canyons. The area is perfect for hiking, cross-country skiing, bird watching, and camping.
