Created by the Valles Caldera Preservation Act to preserve and protect the historic Baca Ranch of New Mexico’s Jemez Mountains, the Valles Caldera Trust is responsible for this 89,000-acre ranch nestled inside a collapsed crater. Visitors can see wildlife and breathtaking scenery and learn about the preserve’s rich history and geology. Not only is the Valles Caldera National Preserve one of New Mexico’s premier elk hunting locations, but visitors can also enjoy turkey hunting, fishing, hiking, trail riding, snowshoeing, and skiing.
