New Mexico's oldest private non-profit museum, "the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian hosts changing exhibitions of contemporary and historic Native American art with an emphasis on the Southwest." Founded in 1937, the Wheelwright Museum collects objects and archives that relate to the arts and cultures of the Navajo, Rio Grande Pueblos, and other natives of New Mexico.
