The sixth largest National Forest in the continental United States, the Gila National Forest covers 3.3 million acres of publicly owned forest and range land, with elevations from 4,200 to 10,900 feet. It is home to an exceptional amount of flora, fauna and wildlife, including black bears, mountain lions, elk, deer, antelope, bighorn sheep, wild turkey, bald eagles, peregrine falcons and red-tailed hawks. Visitors can also enjoy hiking and horseback riding through the Gila, Aldo Leopold, and Blue Range Wildernesses.
