New Mexico's largest state park, Elephant Butte Lake State Park's main attraction is Elephant Butte Lake, a 40-mile long reservoir lake made from the damming of the Rio Grande River in 1916. Three full-service marinas, RV and tent sites, and the Visitors Center with regional interpretive exhibits are available. Boating, fishing, waterskiing, windsurfing, canoeing, swimming, and camping are just some of the recreational activities that are enjoyed at Elephant Butte Lake State Park with more than 200 miles of shoreline.
