Edgar Allan Poe Cottage (circa 1812) 718-881-8900, Located at Kingsbridge Road and the Grand Concourse, the Poe Cottage is where Edgar Allan Poe spent the last years of his life, from 1846 to 1849. In its previous location, this small wooden farmhouse had unobstructed views of the rolling Bronx hills to the shores of Long Island. The cottage is restored to its original appearance and features authentic period furnishings. A film presentation and a guided tour are available. |

Valentine-Varian House (circa 1758) 3266 Bainbridge Avenue, Bronx, NY 10467, 718-881-8900, The historic Valentine-Varian House is a four-level fieldstone farmhouse that was the site of six skirmishes between American soldiers and British forces, who occupied the house for most of the Revolutionary War. The restored house, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was opened in 1968 to the public as the Museum of Bronx History.  |
