"One of the most historic homes in New York," built between 1735 and 1755, the Van Schaick Mansion is one of the earliest examples of a building with a gambrel roof in the Upper Hudson Valley. It served as the capitol of New York State for four days in 1777 and as military headquarters during the French and Indian War, Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. The house is open for viewing Thursdays and Sundays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and by appointment.
