One of the most important small museums in the country with a growing international reputation, the collection at this museum began as a private collection in 1920 by the Industrialist August Heckscher and now boasts pieces as diverse as ancient Egyptian artifacts and works by contemporary artists. Over 500 years of European and American art are represented including works from Renaissance painters to early 20th century American landscapes.
