Fire Island Lighthouse

The original lighthouse at this site was built in 1826, and a newer, taller tower was constructed on a base built from the materials of the original tower in 1857. The lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is open for visits and tours, even though it is still a functioning navigational aid.
