Near the western entrance to the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, Cedar Grove, a farm once owned by local merchant, John A. Thomson; contains the circa 1815 Federal-style Main House and Studio of Thomas Cole, founder of the Hudson River School of Art. Guided tours are available from the first Saturday in May through the last Sunday in October. 40-minute public tours for up to 12 people are offered Thursday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on a first-come, first-serve basis at every hour. The last tour begins at 3:00 p.m. Tours are also available by appointment. A gift shop is on the property and exhibitions of art from the Hudson River School are on display.
