Maintained by a not-for-profit corporation, Opus 40 is "one of the largest and most beguiling works of art on the entire continent" according to Architectural Digest's Brendan Gill. Situated on more than six acres, the Harvey Fite-designed Opus 40 consists of "finely fitted stone rising in ramps and swirling terraces around pools and trees and fountains out of the rock bed of an abandoned bluestone quarry." Opus 40 is open to the public 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day weekend. The Quarryman's Museum houses Harvey Fite's collection of quarryman's tools and artifacts.
