Here on August 6, 1777, what has been described as one of the bloodiest battles of the war, the Battle of Oriskany took place. This designated New York State historic site and National Historic Landmark is a memorial to those who fought to preserve freedom. Visitors can walk the site and read interpretive signs. Special events are held annually.
