Pioneer Tunnel is a horizontal drift mine with a level tunnel that runs 1,800 feet straight into the side of the Mahanoy Mountain. Pulled by a battery-operated mine motor, the open mine cars takes you on a 35-minute tour of how coal is mined, which the PA Travel Industry Advisory Council has named "one of the top 10 tourist attractions in the State of Pennsylvania."
