Founded in 1732, by German settlers seeking spiritual goals rather than earthly rewards, the Ephrata Cloister is one of America's earliest religious communities. Administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, this National Historic Landmark is open for daily tours, special programs and on-going research opportunities. A self-guided exhibit in the Visitor Center and seven historic buildings, which can be viewed before or after the guided tour, are available.
