Originally known as the Presque Isle Light Station, the first Erie Land Light built in 1818, along with the original Buffalo Lighthouse, was the first lighthouse on Lake Erie. A new 56-foot tower was opened in 1858 but was unstable. The 49-foot tall sandstone completed in 1869 was used until 1899. The adjacent 1867 keeper's residence houses the park caretakers.
