The Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County's plan is to create an educational and interpretive complex using the six restored 19th century properties of Thaddeus Stevens and Lydia Hamilton Smith, including an original cistern that historians and archaeologists believe to have been used by Stevens and Smith as a hiding place for escaping slaves along the Underground Railroad.
