Founded by Attorney Charles Young in 1938, the Lawrence County Historical Society's headquarters and museum are located in the 19-room Clavelli Mansion, a.k.a. the Joseph A. Clavelli History Center. The museum houses collections and ever-changing displays of reproduction photographs, narratives, oral histories and authentic artifacts regarding past and present wars, the Black Hand, sports, Ira D. Sankey and Shenango China. The Society's library in the Medure Building of the Joseph A. Clavelli History Center features marriage records, deeds, city directories, yearbooks, immigration records, and much more.
