One of the first in the United States "to recognize the value of collecting and preserving" vital and personal records, the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania is a non-profit organization that was established in 1982. GPS holdings and services include the published "Pennsylvania Archives," bible records, directories from 1841-1854 and 1862-1930, marriage and death indexes, over 800 microfilm reels, and various county land records.
