Founded in 1901, as the Site and Relic Society of Germantown, the Germantown Historical Society is dedicated to preserving, protecting and interpreting the history of the historic German Township, now Germantown, Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill; with a museum, library and archives. The museum and library collections total more than 50,000 objects, documents and photographs, including furniture, 17th century German trunks, Peale paintings, newspapers, maps, land records, deeds, Bibles, individual and organizational records, rare books, and oral history interviews.
