Owned and operated by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Historical and Museum Commission, the Pennsylvania Anthracite Heritage Museum and Iron Furnaces are two of three sites that make up the Anthracite Museum Complex, which also includes Eckley Miner's Village. The Pennsylvania Anthracite Heritage Museum’s "diverse regional collections represent all facets of work, life and values of the region’s ethnic communities." Representing the early iron industry in the United States, four massive stone blast furnaces are what remain of a once extensive plant operated by the Lackawanna Iron & Steel Company, near the Steamtown National Historic Site.
