Operating in association with the Senator John Heinz History Center, an affiliate of the Smithsonian in Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania's largest history museum; Meadowcroft features a recreated 1800's rural village and presently the oldest evidence of a human presence in North America. The Meadowcroft Rockshelter includes artifacts of stone, animal bone and wood and plant and animal remains of over 130 species. Visitors of the village can see a one-room schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, church, covered bridge and two log houses.
