An independent membership library founded in 1753, the Greek Revival-style Providence Athenaeum is the only New England building designed by Philadelphia architect, William Strickland. A National Historic Landmark, the Athenaeum's circulating collection features more 150,000 books, including contemporary fiction, mysteries, dramas, poetry and biographies; recorded books on tape and CD, periodicals, movies on video and DVD, and other materials.
