Goddard Memorial State Park
Ives Road
Warwick, RI 02886

This area was one no more than barren sand dunes, but the vision and work of two philanthropists, Henry Russell in the 1870s, and later, Colonel William Goddard, turned this four hundred ninety acres into what was termed the “finest example of private forestry in America” by 1920; the transformation of the area was achieved by the planting of acorns and the seeds of the great variety of trees that now populate the once bare dunes.
