A festival held each year, throughout May and June; the Gaspee Days Celebration commemorates the “first blow” for American freedom and independence, when the British customs ship, the Gaspee, was burned by colonists. The festival includes a gala ball, children’s costume contest, an arts and crafts fair, a Colonial encampment, parade, golf tournament, mock battle, fireworks, the symbolic burning of the Gaspee, and more.
