Located on the site of the former Avery Normal Institute that was founded in 1865, this research center collects manuscripts, documents, and other materials relating to the history and culture of African Americans in Charleston and the South Carolina Lowcountry area. Collections on site include the Walter Pantovic Slavery Collection, Holloway Scrapbook, and the Bernice Robinson Collection.
