One of several locations in Charleston where slaves were sold, the last auctions at this market were held in 1863. Displays and exhibits in the museum narrate the African-American heritage in Charleston and the Lowcountry from 1670 to the Civil Rights Movement. Permanent exhibits include the Caribbean influences on America, slavery, emancipation, arts, and cuisine.
