This amazing gallery includes a few Old Masters for whose lesser significance or uncertain provenance there is ample compensation through greater accessibility than in any other great museum, but more to the the point there are dozens of first-quality examples of work by less-known artists that are displayed in ideal circumstance. And the Medieval collection is nothing short of breathtaking, as are the entire rooms recreated toward the latter stages of the collection. Is this the Uffizi or Rijksmusem? No. Is this an amazing opportunity to view some examples of Western man's greatest achievements in a small city in South Carolina? Unquestionably, yes.
