This museum site was once the home of Revolutionary War hero, General Thomas Sumter, known as “The Fighting Gamecock,” and includes many exhibits that help explicate the rich history of the Sumter County area--- a history that includes important battles in both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. The grounds include a lovely 1916 Edwardian home that offers insight into the way of life in that era, a reconstructed Carolina Backcountry homestead, lovely gardens filled with abundant flora, trickling water and century-old pecan trees that tower sixty feet above the gardens, and much more that awaits exploration.
