The former location of Dakota Loan and Investment Company, the Abstract Company, Post Office and the Germania State Bank, across the street from the historical site of Pa Ingalls' dry good store; the 4,800 square foot Heritage House Bed & Breakfast has spacious rooms with fine period furnishings and 12 foot ceilings and an ornate wooden staircase. All guest rooms have private baths, cable TV, and sitting areas.

We so enjoyed our stay at Heritage House B & B. There is so much history in De Smet and Heritage House is a part of it. The decor is fabulous, and it was so exciting to stay in the actual bank building where the Ingalls family had accounts. Perhaps their savings were stored in the actual old-fashion vault that is still visible on the ground floor. Who knows? We were excited to be there and sample a true part of local history.
