Tatanka - Story of the Bison
U.S. Highway 85; P.O. Box 503
Deadwood, SD 57732

Open from mid-May through September, Tatanka's larger than life bronze sculpture featuring 14 bison pursued by three Native American horseback riders and hands-on interpretive center help to tell the story of the 30-60 million bison that once roamed the great plains of North America. By the close of the 19th century, it's estimated that less than 1,000 bison survived. A Native American gift shop and a snack bar can also found.
